Our Mini Covid-19 Relief Effort

With the global Covid-19 pandemic affecting every person on the planet the future is definitely very uncertain. We have to isolate ourselves from others, even friends and family and financial uncertainty is a worry for everyone. We wanted to do something to help.

During these times of lockdown and social distancing it’s easy to feel isolated and alone and get caught up in our own concerns. It is however important to remember that we are all in the same situation and that there are always people out there that are in a worse situation than you. To ignore that fact and not make an effort to help others feels wrong to us. We are just as stressed about finances as anyone and unsure if we will have jobs in a month or two however we are fortunate to be in the UK and although a  few pounds doesn’t buy much here it can go a long way in the Philippines. We therefore decided to act and try to help people who are in really bad situations and struggling to feed their families.

We focussed our efforts on Rizal So-ol in Negros Occidental as that is where Racel is from and her family could help us with the logistics of the effort and also identify the households that need it most.

We managed to purchase enough rice and noodles for about 35 households and they were notified that they could collect it today (15/04). Everything went smoothly and the goods were all distributed. A bag of rice does not seem like much to most foreigners but can make a big difference when money and food is scarce.

We would like to say a BIG thank you to Racel’s family for making this possible. Without them we would not have been able to do this.
